About Me

Firefighter Days

Your Host at Below the Smoke

I want to bring hope, inspiration and courage to those ready to give up. I want to research and develop new technology, and apply it in ways that will save lives.

“Below the Smoke” comes from a story I wrote about a firefighting experience I had, and the pivotal life lesson it taught me. It also comes from a quote that I wrote a long time ago based on the basic firefighting principle that you crawl on the floor below the smoke in order to accomplish your goals and to keep from cooking yourself in the process. In life we often stand panicking in the smoke with no hope of success, when all we need to do is get down and crawl.

I left firefighting and emergency medical services around 1999 after 10 years of volunteer and paid experience as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician.  I’ve been a web designer and developer since 1994, and I’ve worked in U.S. Government Information Technology for over 10 years.  Most of that time was as an Information Technology Officer with the National Weather Service, one of the greatest positions I’ve ever worked in.  I’ve spent time in most areas of information technology and computer science, but my first passion is the web, and second has become mobile app development.  My heart is, and always will be one of a firefighter, and I know that whatever life throws at me, I just don’t give up.
